I have 'kena' many times in Giant Sandakan. Their scanners scan an RM 9.90 item as RM15. They scan our stuff twice. Some items like jelly pudding mix and vitagen (a repeat offender) is often way past due date. But we've been quite lucky so far... we always catch the expiration date before anything enters our mouths.
But I wasn't so lucky last night.
I bought a pack of Cadbury 3in1 choc drink during the 1st week of October to put in my office pantry so that I'd have something to drink while staying back to mark my piles of PAM scripts. Just before the holidays began last week, I had brought them home along with a tin of biscuits and some instant soup mix... I had been too busy to consume them at school.
So I had a sachet. Then I had diarrhea. I blamed it on a couple of kenduri kawins that I had been attending all weekend.
Then last night, I made a few more... this time, for my kids as well. I noticed the 3in1 powder was clumpy...and had a very strong smell when mixed with water. It didnt mix well either and tasted very weird.
Then I had a look at the date on the sachet. :
The date on the outside packet states it expires in August 2012.... but the sachet inside is stamped 2010. The outside packets had a price sticker with the expiry date stamped on. It wasn't from the factory.
Usually, the malas person inside me will swear a bit, throw expired stuff in the trash and move on with my life.
This time it was different. I wasn't careless. I read the expiration date at 2012...consumed the stuff, and as a result...I got sick.
I didn't have the receipt, but I decided to complain anyway. What happened was unacceptable. If I dont report, others could get sick.
So, I brought the package to Giant. They replaced the package with a new one, but refused responsibility for the old one because I didn't have a receipt.
In my mind, I was thinking to myself, that manager should thank her lucky stars I lost the receipt , because if I hadn't, I would have sued their butts off for the (forgive the pun) ... CRAP I got from them.
Anyways, I filled in the cadangan form asking for feedback. I would bet my ridiculous teachers salary they wont answer.
Bottom line is, we dont have any choice here in Sandakan. We HAVE to buy from them, but we CAN BE MORE CAREFUL.
1. ALWAYS READ THE EXPIRY DATE
2. DON'T TRUST EXPIRY DATES PUT ON OUTSIDE STICKERS.
3. KEEP A CLOSE WATCH ON THE SCANNER DURING CHECK OUT. SOMETIMES THEY LIE!!!
4. KEEP ALL RECEIPTS IN A BOX AND TOSS OUT ONLY AFTER A YEAR.
As for you , Giant Sandakan.... shame on you. Making money by cheating on people amatlah tak berkat. Rezeki HARAM. Keep that in mind when u execute your amanah in providing quality service. Someone could have died!!!
